Home life
MoldovaMoldova has one of the lowest per capita incomes in Europe. Many Moldovans live below the subsistence level and have very little purchasing power. Not only are minimum wages too low, but there are also hardly any social safety nets. For example, welfare benefits for the unemployed are inadequate. In addition, the elderly often lack financial resources. This is in part due to a malfunctioning pension system and failed pension reform. A large number of Moldovans are not able to meet basic needs or to be self-sufficient.
Amaryllis Foundation wants to assist and help people with their daily needs. With the money raised and with occasional collections of (second-hand) goods and of donated equipment we try to provide the necessary basics to as many Moldovans as possible. These are: food and drink, clothing and footwear, hygiene and self-care medicines and supplies for heating and shelter.
Food and Drink
Food and drink are, of course, the most urgent and fundamental necessities. To provide these to those in need as sustainably as possible, we ensure that good products with long shelf-life are purchased and delivered. Examples include: rice, pasta, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, canned vegetable, water and sterilised milk. A few packs and cans of each product are assembled into (emergency) packages, which help many households get by.

Clothing and footwear
Amaryllis Foundation also sometimes collects clothing. It does this through short collection campaigns announced in advance. In addition, we collect money for good quality shoes for (school) children and special shoes for people who need these. Any fundraising events are announced on this website.

Hygiene and self-care medication
Care products and possibly self-care medication are also included in the (emergency) packages for Moldovan households. These include toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, nappies, sanitary towels, incontinence pads, ointments, plasters, boxes of aspirin and paracetamol.
Heating and shelter
Many Moldovans do not have adequate housing. Some have only minimal shelter from the elements, possibly just a temporary construction. Amaryllis Foundation considers a safe home to be among the first necessities of life. We seek to improve these dire living situations, including by arranging and supplying materials. For winter in particular, we spend money to purchase firewood and coal, used for house-heating. We also provide beds, mattresses, bed linen, sleeping bags and kitchen utensils.
